Post Abortion Recovery

By PCS - 03/09/2017

An abortion is a very personal decision, and something that we do not freely speak to others about, rather, we tend to internalize the abortion experience and what it means to us. At first, we may feel a sense of relief, but then, perhaps, some sadness may start to creep in, and we feel confused and unsure about our decision. Often times, the emotional impact (experienced by both women and men) gets pushed down, and we just get on with the business of getting on with life. I know this, because that is how I chose to cope. Rather than acknowledge and work through the guilt, shame, anger, and spiritual loss I was feeling, I pushed it deep down and closed the door.

Coping with your abortion experience on your own can be painful and debilitating. I have come to know many men and women who have been haunted by an abortion, but remain in denial, thinking that “it is a done deal.” They cannot imagine dredging up the painful messages and emotions they have long since buried.

The emotional aftermath of an abortion can be experienced in many ways. Some can include:

  • Anger/Rage
  • Anxiety and Panic Attacks
  • Crying, Depression
  • Drug and Alcohol Abuse
  • Eating Disorders
  • Emotional Numbness
  • Grief
  • Guilt
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Nightmares
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Sexual Problems/Promiscuity,
  • Shame
  • Suicidal Thoughts

So it was with me, I was holding on to a secret that kept me emotionally and spiritually blocked; my inner voice was mute. I could neither talk about the abortion or allow myself to feel anything for fear that if I let myself indulge in my feelings of guilt and shame that I would never be able to pull myself out of it. I had no idea that the relational emptiness and soul grief I had carried inside me for years needed to be acknowledged, validated and affirmed.

The good news is that you do not need to remain in emotional bondage over your abortion experience! My work includes private clients and facilitating local community post-abortion healing groups and retreats, and I will come along beside you and give you a safe place to share your story.  You will find that I am both personally and professionally passionate about helping you journey through your post-abortive healing experience. In fact, perhaps for the first time, you will gently find your voice by sharing your thoughts, fears and emotions about the abortion in a safe, compassionate, validating space that will bring healing, peace and restoration to your life.

I invite you to share your story with me or a close trusted friend, and start the journey to self-discovery, healing and wholeness.
