About Gloria

Treating children and adolescents, as well as adults with trauma, is a true calling of mine. I became inspired to become a psychologist at the age of 15, when I took a high school psychology class and completed a research paper on child abuse. Motivated to help those with trauma to heal, I wrote away to the American Psychological Association (APA) requesting information about a career in psychology (the internet was not in existence at that time!). The brochure I received in the mail stated that one would need a “doctorate” to become a psychologist. As a teenager, I had no idea what a doctorate was, but I was determined to get one!

As a licensed psychologist, I am committed to establishing a comfortable environment in which children, teens, and adults view counseling as a positive experience.  I incorporate the use of a variety of techniques, including Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral strategies, sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness strategies, therapeutic books, play therapy, and art therapy.

As part of the treatment team at PCS, I lead the Mindfulness Group, and provide EMDR therapy to individuals participating in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). I am a CPTT (Certified Partner Trauma Therapist) and a CSAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist).  I have specialized training in working with partners who have experienced sexual betrayal and families coping with the pain and consequences associated with their loved one’s sexual addiction.

Because I have found EMDR therapy to be so very effective for my child, teen, and adult clients, I have pursued additional training. I am a Certified EMDR therapist, as well as an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, providing consultation to other EMDR therapists seeking certification in this area.

In addition to providing therapy to clients, I am a certified school psychologist, experienced in conducting learning disability evaluations, psychoeducational evaluations, gifted identification, and consulting with parents and teachers regarding students’ academic and behavioral problems, as well as their need for assistance related to a Section 504 Plan or special education IEP.  I also conduct evaluations for adults to diagnose learning disabilities and/or ADHD, and to determine eligibility for accommodations in college through disability resources.

The issues that I address with my clients are as follows:

  • anxiety
  • divorce adjustment
  • sexual abuse
  • trauma recovery
  • attachment issues
  • grief/loss
  • low self-esteem
  • social skills/friendship problems
  • school issues
  • gifted identification/testing
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • family/parenting issues (as a mother of two children, I understand how challenging parenting can be!)
  • trauma resolution and family-of-origin healing
  • sexual addiction – family of origin trauma and current stressors
  • partner betrayal healing
  • testing for learning disabilities, dyslexia, attentional deficits, anxiety/depression, postsecondary disability resources
