Treating children and adolescents, as well as adults with trauma, is a true calling of mine. I became inspired to become a psychologist at the age of 15, when I took a high school psychology class and completed a research paper on child abuse. Motivated to help those with trauma to heal, I wrote away to the American Psychological Association (APA) requesting information about a career in psychology (the internet was not in existence at that time!). The brochure I received in the mail stated that one would need a “doctorate” to become a psychologist. As a teenager, I had no idea what a doctorate was, but I was determined to get one!
As a licensed psychologist, I am committed to establishing a comfortable environment in which children, teens, and adults view counseling as a positive experience. I incorporate the use of a variety of techniques, including Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness strategies, and play therapy and art therapy techniques.
As part of the Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) team at PCS, I lead the Healthy Balance Group and am trained in the Murray Method approach to trauma treatment. I am a Certified Clinical Partner Specialist (CCPS), a CPTT (Certified Partner Trauma Therapist), a CSAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist), and an IFS-informed therapist. I have specialized training in working with partners who have experienced sexual betrayal and families coping with the pain and consequences associated with their loved one’s sexual addiction. Further, I facilitate weekly support groups for women who have experienced betrayal trauma.
Because I have found EMDR therapy to be so very effective for my child, teen, and adult clients, I have pursued additional training. I am a Certified EMDR therapist, as well as an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, providing consultation to other EMDR therapists seeking certification in this area.
In addition to providing therapy to clients, I am a certified school psychologist, experienced in conducting learning disability/dyslexia evaluations, ADHD evaluations, psychoeducational evaluations, gifted identification, and consulting with parents and teachers regarding students’ academic and behavioral problems, as well as their need for assistance related to a Section 504 Plan or special education IEP. I also conduct evaluations for adults to diagnose learning disabilities and/or ADHD, and to determine eligibility for accommodations in college through disability resources.
